Summertime has definitely hit London and even though we are currently going through lockdown due to the global pandemic doesn’t mean we cannot pretend to escape on a summer holiday and enjoy a perfectly homemade Aperol Spritz.

Aperol Spritzes are super refreshing and my favorite bubbly cocktail for the hot summer days. A proper Aperol Spritz tastes like summertime in Italy and looks like a golden sunset. I wish I was sitting on an Italian beach with an Aperol Spritz in hand, but since we are not traveling right now I will enjoy one on my balcony and pretend I am on holiday.

To make the perfect Aperol Spritz you will need the following ingredients plus some ice:

  1. Aperol – Only Aperol will do here. It is a bright orange aperitif. It is a zesty orange flavor with underlying herbal scents. You can find this in the liqueurs section at your grocery store.
  2. Prosecco – This is the inexpensive Italian sparkling wine. If you cannot find Prosecco you can use Spanish Cava or French Champagne. I recommend picking a dry (Brut) Prosecco so you don’t make your drink too sweet.
  3. Club Soda – This adds a bit more fizz to the drink. I only add a splash, but I have heard that Italians choose not to add this to the drink.
  4. Slices of fresh orange – This isn’t mandatory, but it is a nice touch to make your cocktail look pretty. And a classic Aperol Spritz always has a slice of an orange as a garnish.

How to make an Aperol Spritz:

This is by far one of the easiest cocktails to make. You don’t even need a shaker. You can simply fill a wine glass with ice, then add Aperol, Prosecco and club soda. Then add your orange slice as garnish. Finally all you have to do is Enjoy!
