Hammer & Tongs – London Restaurant Review

I have found the meatiest restaurant in London. Hammer & Tongs in Farringdon has to have the largest spread of meat I have ever seen in my life. I have a few South African followers, friends and colleagues and now it all makes sense as to why they love meat so much. I have never been to South Africa, so trying out Hammer & Tongs was a whole new experience for me. In my opinion, South African restaurants are pretty underrepresented in London. I have come to learn that South African cuisine is a mixture of meat, more meat, and then some more meat. You haven’t done meat properly unless you have tried one of Hammer & Tongs South African Braais.

South African food is mainly comprised of Braai, which is a platter of different meats barbecued over a special grill. While there with a group of bloggers were served up the Big Braai and the Bigger Braai. I had never seen so much meat in front of me in my life. Braai is how they grill/BBQ down in South Africa, and based on this restaurants menu, they can BBQ just about anything! The platters that came out said they served about 4-6 people when in reality I am sure it could feed up to 10 people. The platter includes curry fish, pork ribs, a huge 700g T-bone steak, chicken wings, mussels, and a spicy veg sosatie! My personal fave was the T-bone steak and the curry fish!

Overall the look of the restaurant was nothing special but the service was great and there was never a shortage of food. I personally felt like this is the type of restaurant to bring a group of very hungry friends. I also felt that the prices were pretty steep. I know that meat isn’t cheap, but it was even pricey for London standards.
