I have loved Acai bowls for a while. Being Californian I have been exposed to Açai for a number of years. Açai bowls are not a new concept for me, I have loved them for years. So when I was invited to attend the Sambazon Açai Bowl Masterclass at Whole Foods I was really excited to learn how to perfect my bowl. The class was hosted by Sambazon and Whole Foods and our amazing instructor was @happyskinkitchen.
As I mentioned açai has been around for a number of years. It originates from the Brazilian rainforest and is classified as a superfood. Sambazon originated in California but has now brought it’s frozen açai berry product to the UK and selling it at Whole Foods. In the Amazon region, this super fruit is regularly consumed as it contains powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants are super important as they help kill off the damaging effects of free radicals in our bodies and it has been clinically proven that they reduce cholesterol levels. I am no doctor, but this all sounds amazing to me and not to mention they taste great as well.
What I learned from this masterclass is that when blending the frozen acai to make the perfect bowl you have to use very little liquid. During the demonstration, @happyskinkitchen used bananas as well as a tiny splash of oat milk in order to get the right consistency. It is important that your acai mixture is quite thick so that you can top it off with fruit. Also another pro tip, you should freeze the bowl beforehand so that your acai doesn’t turn into liquid before you consume it.
Finally, I learned more about the health benefits of açaí and where it comes from. Açaí is said to be a superfood, packed with powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals and healthy omega 3,6,9 that promote brain and body health. Not to mention it’s organic, Non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, fair trade, and don’t forget it is delicious! When blended together with a banana and a bit of nut milk it really tastes like healthy ice cream, or otherwise known as “nice” cream! Açaí comes from the Brazilian Amazon. It was popularized on the beach of Brazil and in cafes in Rio. Açaí is how most Brazilians enjoy breakfast or an energizing snack during the hot days.
Overall I would happily have açaí bowls all day every day! Have you ever tried this magical superfood?
