Why is it such a faux pas?
In the fashion world we are constantly told that wearing white after Labor Day is a big no no. White is meant to be worn in the summer months and since Labor Day symbolizes the end of summer, no one should be wearing white after said date. Well I guess I am the ultimate rebel. I wear white all year long. Back in the day the “summer season” started on Memorial Day weekend and ended on Labor Day weekend. The history of fashion shows us that in the warmer months city clothes were left behind in exchange for lighter, warmer, summer outfits. Come fall and the cooler months everyone went back to the darker dress code for practicality purposes. This change in color make the change between summer resort clothes and clothing worn for the rest of the year. This phenomenon soon because encapsulated with the phrase “No white after Labor Day”. And this sucks.
Why I don’t care
So in my opinion, I really don’t care if people wear white after Labor Day. I wear white all year round. I think white looks great in the fall and winter months because it contrasts against the changing leave colors. Also, living in London means that my fall weather is hardly fall-like and we were lucky enough to have quite a warm September leading into October. I think it is actually more about the fabric choice than the color. I love wearing white jumpers, trousers, and jackets. I really enjoy the juxtaposition of white clothes on colorful fall days. Even in the dead of winter I think it is really fashionably to wear white wools, cashmeres, jeans, and parkas! I think it is better to wear whatever suits the weather, season, or the occasion.
My Outfit
As I clearly stated earlier, I really love wearing white all year round. My outfit is all white, but all my accessories are different shades of blue to add a pop of color. This outfit is great to wear to a picnic, brunch, or on a casual date. I love that wearing all white gives you a crisp and clean look, but because I am wearing jeans it is also a very casual outfit.
