When I was New York City in November I definitely ate my way through the city. I am a huge foodie at heart and New York City is the ultimate foodie playground. Brunch is taken very seriously in the city. Even in the middle of the week, most restaurants require a reservation. Friedman’s, located in Herald Sq in Manhattan, is no exception to this rule. My family and I stopped in for a midweek brunch and luckily we were seated within 30min, but there was quite the queue to be seated at 10 am on a Wednesday! I highly recommend making a reservation. Enough talk about reservations, let’s talk about the chicken and waffles at Friedman’s!
Friedman’s is a family run restaurant and they have a few locations around manhattan. What I really loved is that their entire menu is available as gluten-free options. Which means for all the gluten-intolerant foodies out there you can now have some of the best pancakes, waffles, and fried chicken that NYC has to offer. Their mantra is pretty straight forward, it is “Eat Good Food” and this is exactly what they serve up in each of their dishes. They also serve up antibiotic-free meat and locally grown vegetables. They really make it a point to serve the best quality food to their guests.
Their service was tip top and the servers were attentive enough and made adjustments to our dishes to make sure we got exactly what we were looking for. Most places in NYC don’t like to substitute out parts of a dish but the servers at Friedman’s were more than happy to accommodate to our dietary needs and restrictions. I got the Fried Chicken and Cheddar Waffle with honey tabasco syrup and it was amazing! The chicken was cooked to perfection. The outside was nice and crispy while the inside was perfectly moist. I also really loved the kick of the honey tabasco syrup. The entire dish was perfect from the first to last bite.
The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was buzzing and busy all morning. The entire restaurant was actually quite small and connected to Brown’s bagels, but the food was worth the 30min wait. Their weekend brunch is available from 8:30am-4pm. So if are you trying to cure a hangover I definitely suggest the chicken and waffles!
