LaLa Land, the land of the wild, free and the most epic brunch. This summer I went home to Los Angeles for a few weeks and I spent a weekend doing the most “LA” things possible. One of these things included the infamous brunch at Catch LA – the coolest rooftop in West Hollywood. One of the first things you’ll notice about Catch LA is the massive rooftop space that is designed to give you a garden like a feel with a killer view of West Hollywood. This is the coolest place for brunch with the girls or even a date night. The menu is pretty straightforward with some awesome surprises along the way. They specialize in seafood, as the name may imply, with sushi rolls, raw bar items, and ceviches galore. The tartare trio makes a fun shareable starter, but my favorite starter on the menu was the crispy (deep fried) cauliflower.
When I first arrived at Catch LA on a gorgeous Saturday morning, I first noticed that this place was packed for brunch at 1 pm, clearly, this place does brunch all day long. It was a hot day in LA and a little too hot to be on a rooftop without air conditioning. The indoor dining rooms were spacious yet cramped with huge tables that were arranged in close proximity. The coolest part is that this rooftop really does feel like a garden with huge trees separating some of the tables. Despite being an extremely hot day and the busy day the service at Catch LA was top notch and quick. We were first served our cocktails which we decided to go with their signature Frose (frozen Rose). Wow was it delicious, but a bit of a small portion. I wish they would serve it in a bigger wine glass as it was more of a smoothie than a cocktail. I decided to go with a mostly vegetarian menu and started with the crispy cauliflower which was delicious, I could have eaten 10 plates of this stuff. If you end up Catch LA, make sure you order this starter. I also got the veggie burger and for dessert, we had the waffle tower. Everything was delicious and if everything wasn’t so expensive I would have continued to order everything on the menu.
This place is one of the hottest tickets in town – the Rolls-Royce quota at the valet parking is a dead giveaway. There is great decor on the top floor with an open roof, lots of greenery, dim lighting, and music. This place definitely draws out the trend setters in LA and of course the tourists like me! If you get a chance to make a reservation then do it. I had such an awesome brunch experience and highly recommend it! It was expensive but worth it!
