Having moved from the US to the UK, I have high expectations for sushi. A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of dining in at Sushi 54 in Putney. I went in for a late afternoon lunch with a friend and I was pleasantly surprised to find the place relatively empty and we were seated right away. Fair warning this place is tiny. From what I saw there were only 4 tables. The last time I tried to go in for sushi at this restaurant they informed me that they only do takeaways on Fridays. I found this very odd seeing as Fridays are usually the best night to dine out. I noticed that they had quite a few scooters outside and they seem to do quite a bit a takeaway.
There are some restaurants you have to go to because they are right around the corner from your house. Sushi 54 is less than a 10min drive from my place, and they deliver, it is a dream come true for me. A good sushi restaurant in London: a miracle in itself. The fact that they also deliver: legendary.
The overall service there was amazing, granted we were the only ones in the restaurant, but regardless our server was amazing. Not to mention the sushi was awesome. I tried the spicy tuna inside out maki, Californian inside out maki, and the chili fried edamame. Everything was delicious from the first to the last bite. Not to mention everything was very well priced for the quality. Most of their rolls are priced from 4- 8 pounds. Which having eaten out at a few other sushi restaurants, including Sushi Samba, these prices are hard to beat.
I am sure I will be back soon or will likely order from their takeaway menu on a lazy Friday evening in. In my opinion, Sushi 54 is the best value sushi place in SouthWest London. I haven’t tried all of the Japanese restaurants in London (yet), but from what I have tried I love that I am fully satisfied when I leave Sushi 54 and I don’t have to break the bank to feel that way.
I highly recommend you all check out Sushi 54 if you enjoy Japanese food. If you do find another Sushi place that I should try out leave me a comment below. Sounds like heaven. I live not too far and regularly in Putney – will have to check it out!
