Indian Food in London
In my opinion, London has some of the best Indian food in the world. I may be biased, but the best Indian food in London has to be Dishoom. Due to the colonial history of England and India, the reasoning of why England has some of the world’s best curry is not that surprising. Curry is such a huge British favorite. When speaking to most Brits in London they believe that curry is a national dish. Supposedly about 23 million people eat curry regularly here. Thanks to the huge South Asian population in London, there is always great Indian food at restaurants or for takeaway. I am personally amazed at how the South Asian culture has influenced the London food scene.
Dishoom
Most of the world knows to come to London and try Indian food and every single time I have visitors I almost always recommend Dishoom. There are quite a few locations in Central London and I really enjoy their take on Indian cuisine. Comes from a South Asian background I really appreciate a classic Indian dish, but when I go out to an Indian restaurant I really enjoy more of a fusion rather than something that can be made at home. I really love that Dishoom has a modern take on Indian food. Their food is served in more of a tapas style that is meant to be shared instead of ordering one curry per person. I can recommend almost everything on their menu. I have been to their Covent Garden locations as well as the one off of Carnaby Street. Both locations are lovely and everything from the decor to the staff are all amazing. If you get a chance to check out Dishoom for yourself I recommend trying out their paneer tika and the dishoom calamari, they are my two favorite dishes! Oh and just a fair warning, they do not take reservations for anything less than 6 people. If you have a party of 6 or less be prepared to wait in an hour queue outside their doors. I have done it before and all I can say is that it is worth the wait. From their cocktails to their desserts, everything is worth the wait.
I hope my pictures and review inspired you to go out and try some Indian food in London.
